My Dog Treed a Rabbit

This song was sung by Anne Williams in a field recording in Mississippi in 1942 recorded by Alan Lomax and Lewis Jones. She seems to leave out a measure in the last verse, singing, "my rabbit's getting, my rabbit's getting my turnip top." To make up for that missing measure, some versions add the text "my rabbit's got," resulting in "my rabbit's gettin', my rabbit's got, my rabbit's gettin' my turnip top." Our version adds in "into my crop," resulting in "my rabbit’s gettin' into my crop, my rabbit's gettin' my turnip top." Recommended for grades 2-5.
